STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — At DattoCon, thousands of the nation’s cybersecurity experts gather annually to gain technical insight from industry experts and learn about new and innovative computer data-saving products. For tech enthusiasts, it’s the Superbowl of the business. And at this year’s event, hosted in Washington, D.C., the crowd was gifted with advice from a Staten Island businessman.
“It was a truly great experience to be part the conference,” said Mike Bloomfield, “president geek” of Tekie Geek, an Eltingville-based Information Technology (IT) firm that specializes in network and data security. “It was even more meaningful, because, in a small way, Tekie Geek was able to highlight that great businesses and people are based here on Staten Island.”
Bloomfield, who has owned and operated Tekie Geek for 10 years, presented a session titled “Fireside Chat: MSP’s Share Their Pathway To Cloud Protection Strategies,” during which he discussed the challenges currently facing Managed Service Providers as it relates to client security and protection.
“I did a panel discussion together with another IT owner and spoke about the importance of Microsoft 365 security,” Bloomfield said. “This has become an important topic since the onset of COVID — years ago working from home was not so common. Today, some businesses have a fully remote staff, making this a very important issue.”
Bloomfield said he is proud to have been given the attention of some 2,000 attendees and to have shared the stage with former NASA engineer and YouTube sensation Mark Rober and Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of VaynerMedia and a social media influencer.
“Staten Island has never been represented at this conference before,” Bloomfield said. “While we pride ourselves on being heavily involved in the borough community, it was an honor and a privilege to have our voice heard on a national level.”
