Authorities on Wednesday afternoon investigated two suspicious packages — one at a building that contains Justice Department offices and another near the U.S. Capitol — but ultimately cleared both without finding anything dangerous.
One package, which law enforcement described as a “suspicious suitcase,” was found on a walkway near the Capitol building, near the Southwest Drive and Independence Avenue SW. Capitol Police said a person was seen leaving the suitcase and walking away from the area after 3 p.m.
