Four slain on Tuesday in D.C., police say – The Washington Post

Four people — a woman and three men — were fatally shot in the District in separate incidents Tuesday, police said.

There was no immediately obvious connection among the shootings.

Three of the shootings occurred within three hours in Southeast Washington, while the fourth occurred in Northeast Washington on Tuesday night, according to police. Those shootings brought the number of homicides in the city this year to 119, about a dozen more than last year at this time.

In the first shooting, 33-year-old Audora Williams was fatally wounded about 1:24 p.m. inside a home in the 2900 block of Knox Place SE, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are searching for 34 year-old Wonell A. Jones, Jr. as a person of interest in the shooting.

Relatives of Williams could not immediately be reached for comment, but in television interviews Williams’s father said his daughter was a mother of five.

The second shooting was reported at 3:53 p.m. in the 1000 block of Southern Avenue SE, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. The name of the slain man was withheld pending notification of relatives, police said.

The third occurred about 4:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Burbank Street SE, police said. William Whittington Jr., 40, of Southeast D.C. was pronounced dead at the scene.

The final shooting took place about 10:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of Jay Street NE, police said. Shelton Robinson, 34, of Forestville, Md., was hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital, where he later died. Police did not release any details about a suspect in the shooting.
