In the first shooting, 33-year-old Audora Williams was fatally wounded about 1:24 p.m. inside a home in the 2900 block of Knox Place SE, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are searching for 34 year-old Wonell A. Jones, Jr. as a person of interest in the shooting.
Relatives of Williams could not immediately be reached for comment, but in television interviews Williams’s father said his daughter was a mother of five.
The second shooting was reported at 3:53 p.m. in the 1000 block of Southern Avenue SE, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. The name of the slain man was withheld pending notification of relatives, police said.
The third occurred about 4:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Burbank Street SE, police said. William Whittington Jr., 40, of Southeast D.C. was pronounced dead at the scene.
The final shooting took place about 10:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of Jay Street NE, police said. Shelton Robinson, 34, of Forestville, Md., was hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital, where he later died. Police did not release any details about a suspect in the shooting.
